Well they're no longer searching for Bobby Fischer. He's played his last match. It's Checkmate Bobby. Say what you want about Bobby in his later years when he became famous for his anti-Semitic rants and many of the anti-American statements he made. In 1972 he electrified the world with his defeat of Russian chess champion Boris Spassky when I was just a 18 year old stock clerk working my first job out of high school. I didn't play then (I later learned) but the match reports from Iceland were gripping. At that time the Soviets were considered the masters of world class chess, so for a cocky young American to come along and hand them their "collective" hats was inspiring. We probably had an entire generation of chess players due to his exploits. Long live the King.
