Actor Ron Silver , who won a Tony Award as a take-no-prisoners Hollywood producer in David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow and did a political about-face from loyal Democrat to Republican activist after the Sept. 11 attacks , died Sunday at the age of 62.
Ron Silver - one of the few Hollywood actors able to come to terms and denounce Islamofacism for the threat that it is. Along with attorney Alan Dershowitz, who Ron portrayed in Reversal Of Fortune, very few celebrities are able to tread the line between the world of Liberalism and being strong supporters of our Israeli policies. The two positions just don't mix, especially in Hollywood and among appellate lawyers.
Ron was a very recognizable face in motion pictures even if one couldn't place his name. I enjoyed his performances in "The Arrival", "Silent Rage" and "Reversal Of Fortune". They are among my favorite movies. He was one of a very few actors who could play leads or characters and won a Tony award in the process.
Ron remained a social Liberal while becoming a Bush supporter in Hollywood - a very rare position these days. It may have cost him work and it did become the source of more than a few jokes on the set of The West Wing according to Ron. Ron stood his ground a paid the price. He was a source of integrity sorely lacking in today's politics and in Hollywood. RIP Ron Silver.
